Associate Spotlight – Don Gerhardt

What’s something you love about your current role? One of the things I value most about my role is helping protect and preserve an important part of NBC’s financial health. While collections work can sometimes involve difficult situations, we’re also given the tools to truly help customers who have hit a rough patch or experienced an unexpected hardship. Being able to help someone keep their vehicle, stay in their home, or get their finances back on track is incredibly meaningful and a reminder of the positive impact we can have.
How do you show appreciation to your teammates? I tend to be pretty direct, so I like to show appreciation by simply telling my coworkers how much I value their work or a perspective they’ve shared. After nearly eleven years at NBC, there are many people here I truly admire and feel proud to work alongside. So many of our associates come in each day, do great work, and don’t make a big fuss about it – but what you do matters. From our newest teller to our CEO, everyone contributes something meaningful to NBC’s continued success.
What’s a book or podcast you’ve enjoyed recently? I’ve recently enjoyed 1929 by Andrew Ross, which offers a fascinating historical look at the economic policies and geopolitical events leading up to the stock market crash and the Great Depression. I also read Imminent by Luis Elizondo, an in-depth exploration of how the Pentagon has been investigating unidentified aerial phenomena and recent encounters reported by U.S. military pilots. Both were very interesting in different ways.
What’s your go-to comfort food? A classic cheeseburger and fries – with extra pickles.
If you could plan a dream weekend getaway, where would it be? Honestly, a perfect weekend would be simple: a sunny 70-degree day on the front porch at the Funny Farm, watching a Brewers game on TV with my cell phone mysteriously not working 😉 Sometimes the best getaways are the ones right at home.
