Associate Spotlight – Dan Berg

Dan Berg, VP – Commercial Market Lead

What’s an experience here that has stuck with you or shaped how you work? I started my career at NBC in the Signature Banking department. While I had a strong foundation in customer service and communication, this experience challenged me to take those skills to the next level and showed me the value of building genuine relationships. By providing a personalized, high-value experience, I learned how to earn trust, understand customers’ goals, and help connect them with the right financial solutions.

Those experiences became the foundation for my career in commercial banking. They taught me that success starts with listening, understanding a customer’s needs, and being a trusted partner through every stage of their journey. As I progressed into commercial lending and eventually into my role as Commercial Market Lead, I carry these lessons with me. Today, I still approach every customer relationship with the same mindset: build trust, deliver value, and help businesses and customers achieve their goals while creating long-term partnerships which benefit both the customer and NBC.

What’s something you’re passionate about that people might not expect? Most people would describe me as easygoing and laid back. My family and friends would agree … right up until game night starts. The moment the Crokinole board hits the table, cards are dealt, or a cornhole board appears in the backyard, I transform into someone my wife barely recognizes. She likes to remind people that I’m highly competitive when it comes to “non-athletic” games, and she’s absolutely right. I don’t know what causes it, but I become laser-focused on winning. Family, friends, spouse, it doesn’t matter. If there’s a score to keep, I’m playing to win. To be clear, it’s all in good fun, but if you happen to beat me in Yahtzee, don’t be surprised if I immediately ask for a rematch.

What’s a routine, hobby, or small joy that helps you recharge outside of work? One of my favorite ways to recharge is taking a walk after work with my wife and our two Goldendoodles, Lulu and Maverick. It gives us an opportunity to catch up on our day, get some exercise, and clear our minds while enjoying time together. I also enjoy attending concerts with family and friends and spending time on the lake. Whether it’s an evening of live music or a relaxing pontoon ride, those moments help me unwind, stay connected with the people who matter most, and return to work refreshed and energized.

What’s a piece of advice or perspective that’s shaped how you approach your career? One perspective which has shaped my career is people or customers may not remember every conversation or transaction they have experienced with you, but they will remember how you made them feel. I’ve always tried to approach relationships with authenticity, follow through on my commitments, and genuinely care about helping others succeed. At the same time, I’ve learned the importance of being open to change, collaboration, and continuously investing in my own growth. Whether it’s adapting to new challenges, expanding my skill set through education, or learning from others’ experiences, I’ve found a willingness to evolve is essential for long-term success. The combination of strong relationships, teamwork, and continuous learning has helped me build trust, create opportunities, and grow throughout my career.
